About This Project

This activity aims to define the territorial frame of the project by determining the differences between regions and the common aspects and concerns in order to draft alternatives for responses by Public Administrations in burned areas. A collection of homogeneous criteria is applied to support the selection of ‘target areas’ (protected natural areas, networks of protected natural areas, etc.), which drives the setting up of testing (GT3 and GT4) and demonstration (GT5) areas linked to fire events during the next three years.

An analytical procedure is proposed for determining the target areas, by combining significant information within the scope of the project. Target areas are characterized according to their particularities, such as climate, fire regime, interested regions, administrative competences, etc. Maximum usefulness and applicability in the SUDOE region are pursued.

The applicability of these criteria, based on the available thematic cartography at European scale, results in a classification of the territory, which can be easily clipped with Protected Natural Areas to get the final target areas of the project.
